- International Cooperation Division
Lee Young, Minister of SMEs and Startups (hereinafter referred to as the "MSS"), called a meeting with the CEOs of five factories and industry professionals after visiting the Samhyun's smart factory in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do on June 22, 2022.
Samhyun mainly produces traction motors for electric and hydrogen vehicles and electric actuators. It has increased its productivity after adopting a smart factory system and hired 38 more young Koreans in the last three years, continuously creating high-quality jobs.
The company established a plan to advance its smart factory to the next level by introducing a digital twin that utilizes manufacturing big data and AI algorithms, as it has been selected for the K-Smart Lighthouse Factory by the MSS.
The gathering was prepared to pay attention to the opinions of enterprises that have introduced smart factory technologies so that the ministry could reflect their ideas into its digital transition policy for SMEs.
Minister Lee emphasized that manufacturing SMEs are the key to the Korean economy, which ranks in the top five in the world when it comes to the size of the manufacturing industry.
She showed a strong will to proceed with the digital transition of manufacturing SMEs as a national agenda, which encompasses the spread of future-oriented smart factories, specialized support for micro-manufacturing enterprises, the connection of smart factories between cooperating companies, and the growth of more talents. The Ministry is also planning to prepare specific implementation measures in the second half of this year.
