Establishing a Hub to Drive Indonesia’s Digital Innovation
SEJONG – In a significant step towards accelerating the digital transformation and manufacturing innovation of Indonesian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), a new hub will be established based on South Korea’s extensive experience and expertise in the field. Since 2023, South Korea has been conducting a cooperation project with the Indonesian government aimed at enhancing process improvements, upgrading equipment, and training skilled personnel in the manufacturing sites of Indonesian SMEs. This initiative is being carried out through an Official Development Assistance (ODA) program, leveraging the IT technologies of South Korean companies that have vast experience in building smart factories.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) announced that on December 2, 2024, an opening ceremony took place to mark the completion of the Smart Factory Training Center at Binus University in Bekasi, Indonesia. The event was attended by Indonesia’s Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, as well as the Vice Minister of Cooperatives. The training center is the product of collaboration between MSS and the INNOBIZ as part of the ongoing cooperation project.
The newly opened center is Indonesia’s first dedicated smart factory training facility, featuring both theoretical lecture rooms and a practice space where participants can directly engage with the construction process and operational outcomes of a smart factory. The center is expected to become a key platform for training future specialists in smart factory operations across Indonesia.
The curriculum at the center includes an understanding of smart factory solutions, an overview of South Korean construction cases, and the development and presentation of action plans for smart factory adoption. From the very first day of its opening, comprehensive training will be provided to industry practitioners. Additionally, a dedicated exhibition area within the center will showcase the solutions of South Korean companies involved in the smart factory projects. This is expected to be a vital step in helping South Korean solution providers enter and expand their business in the Indonesian market.
CHOI Won-young, Director General for Global Growth Policy, who represented South Korea at the event, remarked, "The Indonesia Smart Factory Transfer Project is the first initiative through which we transfer our manufacturing innovation, built on advanced IT infrastructure and technology, to overseas markets. We hope this will serve as a major catalyst for productivity innovation at Indonesia's small and medium-sized manufacturing sites and, ultimately, contribute to their transformation into an economic powerhouse." He also added, "This project will support the entry of South Korean smart factory solution providers with cutting-edge technology into the Indonesian market."
